Indoor air quality for a house that never really dries out
Two houses can show the same number on the thermostat and feel completely different. On the Gulf Coast, the real complaint is usually humidity, hiding behind what sounds like a temperature complaint.
The Gulf Coast problem is humidity, not just heat
A house sitting at 78 degrees and 65 percent relative humidity feels muggy and uncomfortable. A house at 76 degrees and 45 percent relative humidity feels cool and dry, even though the air itself is only two degrees colder. On the Gulf Coast, humidity is usually the real complaint hiding behind what sounds like a temperature complaint. A common cause is an air conditioner sized too large for the house: it cools the air fast, satisfies the thermostat, and shuts back off before it has run long enough to actually pull moisture out of the air. The fix is not always a bigger or colder system. Sometimes it is a smaller one, and sometimes it is dedicated humidity control that runs independently of the cooling cycle rather than only when the AC happens to be on. We install four kinds of indoor air quality equipment, air purification, air filtration, fresh air intake and humidity control, and we pick between them based on what a specific house actually needs rather than selling all four as a package by default.
Filters, and where more is not automatically better
A higher MERV rating catches more, but it also restricts airflow more, and a blower that was not built for it works harder than it should and can lose efficiency it was never designed to give up. We match the filter to what your blower can actually pull air through, not just to the highest number on the shelf. A tightly built newer home is often airtight enough that it traps stale air and needs fresh air deliberately brought in, where an older, leakier house usually gets enough exchange without any help at all.

Treats the air moving through the system, aimed at reducing airborne particles and odors rather than only filtering what passes the return.
Air filtration
The filter itself, matched to what your blower can actually pull air through, not just the highest MERV number on the shelf.
Fresh air intake
Deliberately brings outside air in. A newer, tightly built house is airtight enough to need this on purpose. An older house usually does not.
Humidity control
Runs independently of the cooling cycle, so the house can actually get dry even on a mild day when the AC itself does not run long.
A humidity problem is often really a sizing problem, and sizing gets checked properly during a normal AC maintenance visit or a new AC installation. If the system cannot keep up at all rather than one that runs and never quite dries the air, start with AC repair.
